Pier Lights

The light of day fades, and is replaced by a full moon and the pier lights of the Duluth Canal.

As I gazed into the horizon waiting for the moonrise, the soft slapping of Lake Superior's waves against the pier seemed like a natural lullaby. In the calm October air, voices of people on the boardwalk, 1/4 mile away, could easily be heard as they observed the moonrise. First it was, "What's That", and than it was "Awesome" as they realized what it was that they were viewing. Right on schedule, the orange moon globe slipped into the twilight sky signaling the arrival of another "Harvest Moon".

Month after month, year after year, as I have been photographing moonrise's over the lake, I have always enjoyed the reactions of people as they first notice the rising moon. The thought that the same moon has spun through the same orbit for thousand of years is a blessed assurance. People around the world have always reacted with the same awe as they view the heavens and it's orbs. It gives us all a greater appreciation for Gods creation.

Throughout the ages, some people have chosen to worship the moon while others the earth, but, it's the Creator of this immense magnificent universe who deserves the glory, and every full moon is a reminder just that.

Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.
Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens.
Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created. Psalm 148
