The Ruby-throated Hummingbird returns to the Lake Superior area in mid-May and is the only species of hummingbird that breeds in eastern North America. This little bird that weighs less than two ounces, and is only three inches long, flies nonstop across the Gulf of Mexico on its return flight from its wintering area in Central America. One of the most striking features of hummingbirds is iridescence. Iridescence results from microscopic feather structures that break apart light and strongly reflect back only certain colors. When light strikes at just the right angle, iridescent feathers appear to glow brilliantly and with very pure colors. Male hummingbirds have brilliant iridescent red throats and females white.
The tiny creature not only hover at flowers and feeders to drink nectar, but, they also catch insects in flight and pluck them from leaves webs.
God uses nature in many ways to reveal to us His attributes, and the beautiful hummingbird is a perfect example of Gods glory.
So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird—each producing offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. Gen 1:21
